Westside

Synopsis

Claytee White, Director of the UNLV Oral History Research Center, gives a history of the Westside of Las Vegas where African-Americans built a community in the early days when the railroad was being constructed. Interviews with current residents and a local business owner tell the story of the economic challenges and inequality they still experience. The area has a very high density of churches, highlighting the faith of the people. A new Neighborhood Plan hopes to secure a vision for future development that celebrates what makes Westside special.
